| Evaluation comments from Belinda's workshop participants: Very practical and useful. Thank you!Great job! Helped boost my confidence to get rid of the old stuff. Belinda was an excellent presenter. This was a great program. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Belinda was a wonderful presenter. She is professional, friendly, easy to listen to and very knowledgeable. I had a wonderful day. Overall the workshop was extremely helpful. I learned all new ideas to consider when evaluating a collection to be weeded. Overall, a wonderful session. Great Program! Practical advice & ammo to use on administration. Belinda was very entertaining. She gave great suggestions for weeding. Her ‘theories’ were very well grounded in the realities of the library world. I wanted to thank you for your wonderful presentation. You are truly a great teacher! Your workshop was outstanding! It has been the best workshop I have attended. There hasn't been a week go by that I haven't thought about the workshop and used the materials one way or another. The instruction provided a very well-rounded program which encouraged much useful discussion. Ms. Boon loves her work – is dedicated to it – and passes on her knowledge. She is a delight. This entire workshop pertained to my position as a new library director. This has identified areas that I need to focus on, and suggestions as to how to approach the task at hand. Plus it affirmed decisions I have already made and priorities I have set. Wonderful!!! I learned so much in such a short time. Thank you, Belinda! [The workshop was] Beyond need matching and expectations. So many tips/insights and tremendous value of subject matter. Everything was very useful. I never realized so much information could be discussed on the topic of weeding. It was great! Lively, interactive, humorous, yet informative – in other words, not boring! Clear
powerpoint presentation – very interesting speaker – excellent handouts
& manual. Kept
your interest, demonstrative, very up to date. Energetic,
knowledgeable, and interesting speaker. It
was fun – full of information. The
presenter’s enthusiasm was most appreciated; her depth of knowledge on every
topic was impressive. Weeding
exercise was helpful Lots
of material was presented that was timely and valuable.
The presenter was excellent! Well
balanced with information, humor, stories, etc. It
was informative and interesting. All
of our questions were answered. Belinda
is very engaging. I also
enjoyed doing the ‘hands on’ weeding. Very
informative and speaker expressed a lot of good items on how to weed and dealing
with the public. Excellent information and presentation. Fantastic! I feel so much better. Excellent. The examples were very helpful. Great presentation and would love to attend more of these workshops! Very productive and interesting. Very helpful. From the SELCO Library Feedpage, Fri, 28 Mar 2008 09:25:57 written by Monica Erickson, SELCO-PLA Scholarship Recipient, Chatfield Public Library (http://www.feedage.com/feeds/1716034/selco-librarian): Weeders Attract More Readers! was fairly calling out to me ... or maybe it was more of a case of yanking me by the collar since the whole topic of weeding is something I usually like to slink away from and avoid. Belinda Boon made me feel as if "Yes, I CAN weed my collection and gosh darn it will be fun and rewarding!" Okay ... maybe not fun, but indeed necessary and very beneficial. She referenced a website I can't wait to check out called SUNLINK Weed of the Month. Its archive provides help in weeding every main Dewey subject area. Check it out at http://www.sunlink.ucf.edu/weed/. Actually, weeding might even be fun if one could only memorize and sing Belinda's "Weeding Song" (sung to the tune of "Rawhide") to bolster enthusiasm during the whole painful ordeal. From the Utah State Library Newsletter, Vol. 13 No. 2,
September 2000 (http://library.utah.gov/dful0900.html):
Ms. Boon covered the serious issues of policy-making and effective interviewing while enthusiastically promoting
a smorgasbord of print and online resources. Everyone enjoyed her knowledge, wit, and understanding of the challenges facing small libraries.
